It’s been a while since we did a Music Monday post, so to make up for lost time, we’re going to feature 3 local artists whose work you should definitely keep an eye out for.

I first came across Mara Hruby in the summer of 2014 at the Oakland Music Festival. Her smooth sound and effortless talent are what instantly caught my attention. The jazz and r&b songstress released her debut EP in 2010 entitled ‘From Here Eyes’ which features Hruby doing covers of songs originally performed by men. Her influences include Patsy Cline, Curtis Mayfield and Julie London. Make sure to take a listen to her work, especially her most recent EP ‘Archaic Rapture’

Oakland’s very own Chose is a triple threat – photographer, rapper, and producer. Music has always been a heavy influence in his life and he uses it as a way to share his story and influence those around him. With his debut mixtape ‘The Outcome’ he was able to win the hearts and the minds of the Bay Area youth, showing them how to use their voice to create their own personal freedom

Dre T tapped into his love of music in the church. By the time he was 6 years old, he had mastered the drums and by 12 he had already started performing for large audiences. He is influenced by classic r&b artist like Prince, Mint Condition, and The Gap Band. Music allows him to be completely creative. It gives him the ability to start with a blank canvas and create whatever he pleases, no rules, no ristrictions.
