DIARY OF A MISGUIDED HIPPIE

DIARY OF A MISGUIDED HIPPIE | TIMELESS COFFEE ROASTERS AND BAKERY

This is a guest post from Paisley, our resident vegan hottie.

You may have overlooked this unsuspected gem on your way to eat at one of Piedmont Avenue’s popular contenders. Nonetheless, Timeless Coffee Roasters and Bakery stands in a lane of its own by being the only strictly vegan eatery on the block.

Since discovering Timeless a few months back, I’ve found myself making almost daily trips to Oakland specifically for their oh-so realistically tasting cheesecake. Their food has even won the favor of my non-vegan friends and family that I’ve dragged along for the ride. In addition to their amazingly stocked dessert case, the cafe also has savory treats like quiche, empanadas, and pizza.

In my opinion, one of their best qualities is the spontaneity of the menu. Sometimes you never know what’s being served on a given day until that morning. But, they do a great job at updating patrons and building anticipation on specials with photos via social networks. Even with such a varying menu, I had still been anxious to try a crowd favorite: chicken and waffles. Being that it’s only served every first Sunday of the month, I was finally able to see what the hype was about after several failed attempts. I was not disappointed.

The saltiness of the vegan butter that topped it was a perfect compliment to the sweetness and slight crispness of the waffle. The mock chicken was also perfectly browned and crisped on the outside with a juicy inside. I also finished off my breakfast with a personal sized key lime pie. Timeless is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, for both vegans and omnivores alike.
