Although Nook and Kranny is a platform for the Bay Area and it’s community, Odilcia and I also want to use it as a form of educating those around us. Usually, American news only covers what is going on in the states – even though that coverage usually misses a lot of key issues. I want to give you all the opportunity to see beyond the Red, White, and Blue.
There are two Congos in Africa – The Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville) and The Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa). This article will focus on Brazzaville, and our dictator who goes by Sassou Nguesso. Sassou has been the president for 30+ years (in two separate terms). During these years, there have been more than 10,000 deaths and rapes. Over 70% of the population makes less than $2 a day. Almost 60% of the population are unemployed. 50% of the population does not have access to clean water or electricity. Meanwhile, Brazzaville continues to make millions of dollars from it’s natural resources, dollars that Sassou embezzles while his people die.
And now, this man, who has done nothing for our country, would like to change the constitution – which bars him from re-election based on his age, and amount of years served – to guarantee a third term and a continuation to his regime.
The Congo is not the property of Nguesso
The Congolese people have taken to the streets, and are protesting this screaming SASSOUFIT – a play on the french Ça suffit which means that’s enough. My poor country is on the brink of a civil war, and this evil man refuses to step down and walk away. The protests are building momentum and he is scared which is why he cut “mobile internet services, text messaging and French radio RFI’s signal.. just hours ahead of an opposition rally to protest against the president’s controversial bid to extend his stay in power.” (AlJazeera.com)
Of course, this revolution will not be televised. Fox won’t inform you how bad it is in Brazza. They won’t show you the protestors who are putting their freedom and life on the lines for change, and they wont let you know that since the protests have started, hundreds of people have died. Well, we’ll show you, we’ll let you know!

Congo is not the only country dealing with these kinds of problems. The ENTIRE African country is corrupt and filled with evil dictators who are mimicking what their European colonizers have done, and what the Western countries continue to do. Why is it that history continues to repeat itself and that there is no one doing anything to help. Instead, the world continues to exploit us for our resources while turning a blind eye to the continued rape, murder, and mistreatment of our people.
