This is a guest post from Cami, our Community Plug.
For those of y’all that know me, you know the Jacka is my all time favorite artist and to me greatest rapper ever. He was such a dynamic artist and embodied what it meant to be from The Bay: rugged, in your face, cultured, avant-garde and fearless.
He was a father, religious man, community member, and icon. In a lot of his music, he talks about praying for guidance, social issues that face the African-American community, and his experiences as a product of his environment. The Jacka accomplished something artists dream about- leaving a legacy. Although he is gone – rest his soul – his legacy and impact still lives in the Bay. Today is the 1 year anniversary of his passing, so today we celebrate his life.
Be sure to come to The New Parish for a free gathering starting at 9pm for the 21+.
