Self care is something that I have always had trouble with. Coming from a loving Congolese mother and being named after a known healer on my paternal side, giving back is my nature. I find myself constantly and tirelessly working to help others that I sometimes forget about myself. When I began my journey as a birth worker, I found myself on a constant high from helping other women during one of the most important moments of their lives but, I was so TIRED. Physically, emotionally, and mentally. This was my wake up call about self care.

I recently came across this article about self care that I wanted with you all via the matermea website. matermea is a website that tells the stories of women at the intersection of motherhood and career. This particular blog post was written by author and visionary Alex Elle. I hope you all enjoy and take something from this post like I have. Remember, you cannot help others until yourself first.
