Feelin the hump day slump? Looking for something different to attend than the typical “New” Oakland party scene? Welcome to “No Wahala Wednesday’s”.
No Wahala Wednesday’s –Wahala, a West African slang word meaning troubles/issues – was founded by Jeff, and a coalition of fellow friends and creatives known as the “United Tribes of Africa”. Tired of the same old party scene in Oakland, members of UTA, which consists of, Amechi “Jeff” (@flygerianjeff), Betelihem Mulubirhan (@queenbeph), Onni Viola Jones (@onniviola),Obi Uwakah (@_0bi), Dominique Berry (@nichellleb), Tamunosaki Higgwe (@osakibomb) and Juan G. (@juang_digging4gold) wanted to create a more cultured movement full of music, dance, food and a sense of community. One noticeable difference at this party is that people ACTUALLY dance. And how can you not? Heavy mixes of Afro-beats spun by resident DJ Juan G, complemented by some of the best DJ’s in the bay offering guest sets, provides party-goers a free-spirited, gritty feel of a basement party, but, at an upscale venue in Old Oakland. The icing on the cake? A real home cooked West African meal with everything from Fufu to Jollof Rice provided by the mother of a friend and “No Wahala Wednesday” supporter, Ronald Odunikan (@oga_psg).
There is never a shortage of events to support and attend in Oakland, but, “No Wahala Wednesday’s” is more than just somewhere to go or a turn up. It’s an experience.
“No Wahala Wednesdays” every Wednesday 10 PM to 2 AM at Liege Spirits Lounge
